Dr Sarah Benton
BDSc (hons) UWA, D.Clin.Dent (perio) UQ, FRACDS
Sarah is originally from Perth Western Australia. She grew up and did her schooling there, then continued on to do her undergraduate dental degree at the University of Western Australia, which she completed in 2008 with honours. In her 3rd year of dental school, Sarah made a somewhat spontaneous decision to join the Navy, and was granted sponsorship in the undergraduate scheme to complete her last two years of university. She enjoyed her time in the Navy so much that she went on to complete 10 very happy years in the service, experiencing wonderful opportunities to work all over Australia and on ships overseas. In 2016 Sarah attained her Fellowship in General Dentistry with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Then eventually the time came to start planning the next phase of her career, and in January 2017 Sarah and her husband Dean, 2 dogs and 2 horses made the trip down from her final posting location in Cairns to live on the Gold Coast and start her post graduate specialist training in Periodontics.
Sarah completed her specialist training at the University of Queensland in 2019 under the guidance of Professor Saso Ivanovski. Her research thesis was on the effect of Vaping on Oral Health and inflammation. The thing she likes most about perio is that is not only technically challenging, but that unlike many specialist areas, we are able to build long term relationships with our patients.
On the weekends you will probably find Sarah out at a local dressage or eventing competition, rockclimbing, or enjoying our beaches.
